Scene: Kevin and Lucia both happen to be in the break room at lunchtime. They work in different departments and don’t know each other well.
KEVIN: Hey! You’re from customer service, right? I’m Kevin, from IT.
LUCIA: Hi, Kevin! I’m Lucia. I think we met at the holiday party.
KEVIN: That’s right! How’s your day going so far?
LUCIA: Busy! Mondays are always crazy with weekend messages. How about you?
KEVIN: Same here — three password resets before 10 a.m. Is that your lunch? It smells amazing.
LUCIA: Thanks! It’s my grandmother’s rice recipe. Do you usually bring lunch or buy it?
KEVIN: I bring leftovers most days. There’s a great taco truck on Fridays though — have you tried it?
LUCIA: Not yet! Where does it park?
KEVIN: Right on the corner of 5th and Main. Get there before noon or the line is huge.
LUCIA: I’ll check it out this Friday. So, have you been with the company long?
KEVIN: About two years. You?
LUCIA: Eight months. I moved here from Texas for this job.
KEVIN: Oh nice! How are you liking California so far?
LUCIA: I love the weather, but I miss real barbecue. And my family, of course.
KEVIN: I bet. Do you get back to Texas often?
LUCIA: A few times a year. My mom keeps asking when I’m visiting next. What about you — are you from around here?
KEVIN: Born and raised! But I’ve never been to Texas. I should visit sometime.
LUCIA: You should! I’ll give you a list of barbecue places. Hey, do you know if the company is doing anything for the holidays this year?
KEVIN: I heard there might be a potluck in December. Last year’s was fun — someone brought amazing dumplings.
LUCIA: A potluck sounds perfect. I could bring my grandmother’s rice!
KEVIN: I’d sign up for that. Well, I should get back to my desk. It was great chatting with you, Lucia!
LUCIA: You too, Kevin! See you around — and thanks for the taco truck tip!
