Returning a Product

Characters:

Setting: A bustling mall department store. A long line has formed at the customer service counter.

(The scene opens with ANNA standing in a long line, clutching a small, brightly-colored box. She looks impatient. She finally reaches the front.)

ANNA: Hello. I need to return this. The color isn't right.

CLERK: (Without looking up, scanning the box) Do you have the **receipt**?

ANNA: (Frantically searching her bag) Uh… yes, I think so. Wait… here it is! (She holds up a crumpled piece of paper.)

CLERK: (Taking the receipt and the box) Okay. Let’s see… Oh, no. This receipt is for another item. It's for a pair of socks.

ANNA: (Confused) Socks? No, no. This is the right one! I bought the… the… "blouse of the sun." No, that's not it. The "sunny shirt." Ah, "**sunrise shirt!**" That's it!

CLERK: (Shaking her head patiently) Ma'am, the receipt says "Happy Feet Socks." Do you have the **original receipt** for this sunrise shirt?

(ANNA's face falls. She continues to search her bag, but her frustration is growing. Behind her, MR. LEE, a quiet man in his 60s, waits patiently.)

ANNA: I am so sorry. I… I can’t find it. I am very tired. My brain is not working. The receipt must be at home.

CLERK: (Sympathetically) Without a receipt, I can only offer **store credit**. Is that okay?

ANNA: No! I don't want store credit. I need the money back. My husband will be very angry. He said, "Anna, don't lose the receipt!"

(ANNA starts to look tearful. MR. LEE steps forward, a kind smile on his face.)

MR. LEE: (To Anna) Excuse me. I think I have an idea. Maybe you paid with a **credit card**?

ANNA: (Looking up, surprised) Yes! I did. My husband’s card. Why?

MR. LEE: (To the Clerk) Can she return the item using the credit card information? I think some stores can look up the purchase that way.

CLERK: (Looking at Mr. Lee, then Anna) That's a great suggestion. We can try. It's not always possible, but let me see. Do you have the credit card with you?

ANNA: (Nodding eagerly) Yes! Yes! I do! (She quickly pulls out a credit card.)

(The CLERK takes the card and scans it. She types on the computer, and a moment later, she smiles.)

CLERK: Perfect! I found it. You're in luck! I can process the **refund** directly to your husband's card.

ANNA: (Relieved, she sighs loudly.) Thank you! Oh, thank you so much! (She looks at Mr. Lee.) And thank you! You are very smart! You saved my life. And my marriage!

MR. LEE: (Chuckles) You're very welcome. It was a good team **effort**.

(ANNA smiles, her face bright and happy again. She shakes Mr. Lee’s hand warmly as the Clerk processes the refund.)
