Scene: Javier interviewed for a delivery driver position three days ago and hasn’t heard back. He’s calling Ms. Thompson, the hiring manager, to follow up.
Javier takes a deep breath and dials the number from the business card.
MS. THOMPSON: Hello, this is Angela Thompson.
JAVIER: Hello, Ms. Thompson. This is Javier Morales. I interviewed for the delivery driver position on Tuesday.
MS. THOMPSON: Hello, Javier! Yes, I remember. Thanks for calling.
JAVIER: I wanted to follow up and say thank you for meeting with me. I’m very interested in the position.
MS. THOMPSON: I appreciate that. It’s always good to hear from candidates after the interview.
JAVIER: I also wanted to ask about the timeline — when do you expect to make a decision?
MS. THOMPSON: We’re finishing interviews this week. We should have a decision by next Wednesday.
JAVIER: That’s helpful to know. Is there any additional information I can provide in the meantime?
MS. THOMPSON: Actually, yes. Could you send me a copy of your driving record? We require it for all driver positions.
JAVIER: Of course. I can get that from the DMV website today and email it to you. What’s the best email address?
MS. THOMPSON: Send it to t.thompson@fastfreight.com. And Javier — your interview went very well.
JAVIER: Thank you, that’s encouraging to hear. I have five years of delivery experience and a clean driving record.
MS. THOMPSON: That’s exactly what stood out to us. Just get me that driving record, and you’ll be all set.
JAVIER: I’ll send it within the hour. One more question — if I’m selected, when would the start date be?
MS. THOMPSON: We’d like someone to start on the first of next month, after a week of paid training.
JAVIER: That works perfectly for me. Thank you again for your time, Ms. Thompson.
MS. THOMPSON: You’re welcome, Javier. And good luck — we’ll be in touch soon.
JAVIER: Have a great day!
Javier hangs up, smiling, and immediately opens the DMV website on his phone.
