Scene: Mei is new in town and trying to find the public library. Her phone died, so she asks Ben, a passerby, for directions.
MEI: Excuse me! I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m lost. Could you help me?
BEN: Of course! Where are you trying to go?
MEI: The public library. My phone died, so I can’t use maps.
BEN: No problem — it’s not far from here. You’re actually going the right way!
MEI: Oh good! How do I get there from here?
BEN: Keep walking straight for two blocks until you reach the traffic light.
MEI: Straight for two blocks to the traffic light. Then what?
BEN: Turn left on Oak Street. You’ll pass a coffee shop on your right.
MEI: Left on Oak Street, past the coffee shop. Got it.
BEN: Then walk one more block. The library is the big brick building on the corner — you can’t miss it.
MEI: How long will it take to walk there?
BEN: About ten minutes at a normal pace. Are you going to get a library card?
MEI: Yes! I just moved here. Is the library free?
BEN: Completely free. Bring a photo ID and something with your address, like a utility bill.
MEI: Perfect. Is there a landmark I should look for, in case I get confused?
BEN: Good thinking. Right across from the library there’s a park with a big fountain. If you see the fountain, you’re there.
MEI: A fountain across the street — I’ll remember that. Thank you so much, Ben!
BEN: Anytime! Oh — I’m Ben, by the way. Welcome to the neighborhood!
MEI: I’m Mei. Thanks again. By the way, what’s your dog’s name? He’s adorable.
BEN: This is Biscuit. He says welcome too!
MEI: Hi, Biscuit! Okay, straight two blocks, left on Oak, library on the corner. I’ve got it!
BEN: You’ve got it. Enjoy the library, Mei!
